This artwork expresses ancestral legacy and heritage as it relates to the continuation of a lineage.
It is based on the African proverb that is inscribed in the background of the moving image using a self-developed calligraphy script. The title of the proverb used, 'Mebala' means 'colors' in Setswana, one of the eleven official languages spoken in South Africa. This proverb, when paraphrased, says that the beauty and essence of the elders can be observed in their children. This indicates that sometimes parents may make certain sacrifices in order for future generations to thrive and become better, more accomplished models of themselves.
The veiled dancing character is a vignette that embraces the grace of life and pith that her ancestors and predecessors have conferred upon her through dance and movement.

African proverb in Setswana:
Kgaka-kgolo ga ke na mebala, mebala e dikgakaneng.
~Bontle le bokgabo jwa bagolo bo bonwa mo baneng ba bona.
